    Now with FM2

If you remember, the elder brother of ECS-M3 PCplus A55F2 test this time PCplus ever fit in issue 412. Old brother-M3 ECS A55F2 it is ECS A55F-M3 alias minus the number 2 on the naming. At that time, ECS A55F-M3 comes with support for AMD socket FM1 APU with. Now, ECS A55F2-M3 comes with support for the latest generation AMD APU, Trinity, who took FM2 socket.

u6-435-ecsSelain will support newer AMD APU, ECS-M3 A55F2 also added to the display for digital output. ECS A55F-M3 only offer analog outputs in the form of D-Sub 15pin. Digital outputs are added to this is the HDMI.

In terms of main memory slots and expansion slots, micro ATX motherboard is still giving two slots and three slots. Expansion slot is paired ECS PCIExpress 2.0 x16, PCI-Express 2.0 x1, and PCI. Unfortunately, the use of dual slot graphics card, like his brother, will close the slot PCI-Express 2.0 x1 and could complicate the use of a SATA port.

What about the additional facilities? ECS-M3 A55F2 rely more on the facilities offered by the AMD A55 chipset it uses. Therefore, there is no SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0. Similarly, eSATA and FireWire. Both of these interfaces are not added to the ECS.

For you who like tinkering with computers, this motherboard does provide a number of options for you to adjust the BIOS setup, but there are a number of common options for tweaking is not offered by ECS. There is also no indicator POST process and switch / easy to clear CMOS button on the rear panel. The good, easy way to clear CMOS utilizing the Page Up key on the keyboard still included.

For business solid capacitors, ECS-M3 A55F2 use. Unfortunately, the use of only on the assessed critical. For others, ECS still wearing electrolytic capacitor. Just a reminder, solid capacitors generally considered to have the durability and quality that is better than electrolytic capacitor that is more affordable.

Given that the cost should you spend to redeem, various limitations this is a natural thing. ECS motherboard consign it for you who need a FM2 motherboard affordable and do not need the completeness of all kinds. Good again, ECS still provides a number of distinctive features such as the EZ Charger can recharge your mobile device battery quickly.

  • Official feedback on OpenGL 4.4 thread

Comments Off on Official feedback on OpenGL 4.4 thread
March 28, 2019 /  Computer Technology, Programming, Software

SIGGRAPH – Anaheim, CA – The Khronos™ Group today announced the immediate release of the OpenGL® 4.4 specification, bringing the very latest graphics functionality to the most advanced and widely adopted cross-platform 2D and 3D graphics API (application programming interface). OpenGL 4.4 unlocks capabilities of today’s leading-edge graphics hardware while maintaining full backwards compatibility, enabling applications to incrementally use new features while portably accessing state-of-the-art graphics processing units (GPUs) across diverse operating systems and platforms. Also, OpenGL 4.4 defines new functionality to streamline the porting of applications and titles from other platforms and APIs. The full specification and reference materials are available for immediate download at http://www.opengl.org/registry.

In addition to the OpenGL 4.4 specification, the OpenGL ARB (Architecture Review Board) Working Group at Khronos has created the first set of formal OpenGL conformance tests since OpenGL 2.0. Khronos will offer certification of drivers from version 3.3, and full certification is mandatory for OpenGL 4.4 and onwards. This will help reduce differences between multiple vendors’ OpenGL drivers, resulting in enhanced portability for developers.

New functionality in the OpenGL 4.4 specification includes:

    Buffer Placement Control (GL_ARB_buffer_storage)
Significantly enhances memory flexibility and efficiency through explicit control over the position of buffers in the graphics and system memory, together with cache behavior control – including the ability of the CPU to map a buffer for direct use by a GPU.

    Efficient Asynchronous Queries
    (GL_ARB_query_buffer_object)
Buffer objects can be the direct target of a query to avoid the CPU waiting for the result and stalling the graphics pipeline. This provides significantly boosted performance for applications that intend to subsequently use the results of queries on the GPU, such as dynamic quality reduction strategies based on performance metrics.

    Shader Variable Layout (GL_ARB_enhanced_layouts)
Detailed control over placement of shader interface variables, including the ability to pack vectors efficiently with scalar types. Includes full control over variable layout inside uniform blocks and enables shaders to specify transform feedback variables and buffer layout.

    Efficient Multiple Object Binding (GL_ARB_multi_bind)
New commands which enable an application to bind or unbind sets of objects with one API call instead of separate commands for each bind operation, amortizing the function call, name space lookup, and potential locking overhead. The core rendering loop of many graphics applications frequently bind different sets of textures, samplers, images, vertex buffers, and uniform buffers and so this can significantly reduce CPU overhead and improve performance.

    Streamlined Porting of Direct3D applications

A number of core functions contribute to easier porting of applications and games written in Direct3D including GL_ARB_buffer_storage for buffer placement control, GL_ARB_vertex_type_10f_11f_11f_rev which creates a vertex data type that packs three components in a 32 bit value that provides a performance improvement for lower precision vertices and is a format used by Direct3D, and GL_ARB_texture_mirror_clamp_to_edge that provides a texture clamping mode also used by Direct3D.Extensions released alongside the OpenGL 4.4 specification include:

    Bindless Texture Extension (GL_ARB_bindless_texture)
Shaders can now access an effectively unlimited number of texture and image resources directly by virtual addresses. This bindless texture approach avoids the application overhead due to explicitly binding a small window of accessible textures. Ray tracing and global illumination algorithms are faster and simpler with unfettered access to a virtual world’s entire texture set.

    Sparse Texture Extension (GL_ARB_sparse_texture)
Enables handling of huge textures that are much larger than the GPUs physical memory by allowing an application to select which regions of the texture are resident for ‘mega-texture’ algorithms and very large data-set visualizations.

OpenGL BOF at SIGGRAPH, Anaheim, CA July 24th 2013
There is an OpenGL BOF “Birds of a Feather” Meeting on Wednesday July 24th at 7-8PM at the Hilton Anaheim, California Ballroom A & B, where attendees are invited to meet OpenGL implementers and developers and learn more about the new OpenGL 4.4 specification.

  • Windows 8.1 Uninstall Facebook and Flickr

Comments Off on Windows 8.1 Uninstall Facebook and Flickr

Washington – One of the selling points of Windows Phone is a powerful social media integration and the ability to download photos from Facebook directly into the photo apps already available on Windows Phone. Microsoft implemented this functionality in Windows 8. But, it seems the company led by Steve Ballmer that will remove some of the functionality in Windows 8.1.
Although the photo in Windows 8.1 application has been improvised with editing functions, the application has been releasing its integration with Facebook and Flickr as well as supporting delete pictures / photos on the network.
Microsoft spokesman said the software manufacturer introduces Facebook and Flickr integration in Windows 8 because when it was only a few similar apps available. “But now there are many applications available and offers the feature to view photos on other services,” he said.
Separation Windows 8.1 integration with Facebook and Flickr in fact reap disappointment. You see, Facebook has recently committed to build specialized applications Windows 8.

With all the talk surrounding it, crowdsourcing science might seem like a new concept and it might be true for citizen science efforts, but it is definitely an old trick to source your research to other researchers. In fact, evolutionary game theory was born (or at least popularized) by one such crowdsourcing exercise; in 1980, Robert Axelrod wanted to find out the best strategy for iterated prisoner’s dilemma and reached out to prominent researchers for strategy submissions to around-robin tournmanet. Tit-for-tat was the winning strategy, but the real victor was Axelrod. His 1981 paper with Hamilton analyzing the result went on to become a standard reference in applications of game theory to social questions (at least outside of economics), agent-based modeling, and — of course — evolutionary game theory. Of Axelrod’s sizeable 47,222 (at time of writing) citations, almost half (23,370) come from this single paper. The tradition of tournaments continues among researchers, I’ve even discussed an imitation tournament on imitation previously.

The cynical moral of the tale: if you want to be noticed then run a game theory tournament. The folks at Brilliant.org— a website offering weekly olympiad-style challange problems in math and physics — took this message to heart, coupled it to the tried-and-true marketing technique of linking to a popular movie/book franchise, and decided to run a Hunger Games themed semi-iterated Prisoner’s dillema tournament. Submit a quick explanation of your strategy and Python script to play the game, and you could be one of the 5 winners of the $1,000 grand prize. Hooray! The submission deadline is August 18th, 2013 and all you need is a Brilliant account and it seems that these are free. If you are a reader of TheEGG blog then I recommend submitting a strategy, and discussing it in the comments (either before or after the deadline); I am interested to see what you come up with.

  • Intel Releases Low-Powered Atom Chips for Servers

Comments Off on Intel Releases Low-Powered Atom Chips for Servers
    March 17, 2019 /  Computer Technology, Hardware

Now that Intel Corp. (INTC) has released new chips for the smartphone market, where it has been squeezed out by competitors like ARM Holdings PLC (ARMH) and Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM), it has elected to restart its initiatives in the server business as well. Intel has three-quarters of that market, by most estimates. Although the opportunities in the corporate server market are not as great as those among consumers, it needs to keep its hold on one of its major franchises.

As it struggles to keep server share, it announced:

Intel revealed new details for the forthcoming Intel Atom processors C2000 product family aimed for low-energy, high-density microservers and storage (codenamed “Avoton”), and network devices (codenamed “Rangeley”). This second generation of Intel’s 64-bit SoCs is expected to become available later this year and will be based on the company’s 22nm process technology and the innovative Silvermont microarchitecture. It will feature up to eight cores with integrated Ethernet and support for up to 64GB of memory.

America’s Worst Companies to Work For

The new products are expected to deliver up to four times the energy efficiency and up to seven times more performance than the first generation Intel Atom processor-based server SoCs introduced in December last year. Intel has been sampling the new Intel Atom processor server product family to customers since April and has already more than doubled the number of system designs compared to the previous generation.

The market probably will not need to wait long to see if the initiative works. Chip companies are fond of release data sales on new products, if they are successful. By the firm’s next earnings call, Wall Street will know if the new Atom product and the servers it runs will replace older ones in which systems were less efficient.

  • Yahoo!’s Earnings and the Future of Display Ads

Comments Off on Yahoo!’s Earnings and the Future of Display Ads

Investors were upset that Yahoo! Inc.’s (YHOO) quarterly results showed a sharp drop in display advertising revenue. And, based on its forecasts, that will not get any better soon. The Yahoo! trouble is not an isolated case. Display rates have started to collapse across the industry, making a chance for Internet advertising to expand as fast as it has over the past decade impossible. That represents trouble for tens of thousands of businesses.

Yahoo!’s revenue fell 7% in the second quarter compared to last year, drifting down to $1.22 billion. Wall St. focused mostly on one comment:

    Iconic Brands That Just Vanished

GAAP display revenue was $472 million for the second quarter of 2013, a 12 percent decrease compared to $535 million for the second quarter of 2012.

At the same time, there was no evidence that Yahoo!’s audience fell, so the yield from the average display ad fell considerably.

Yahoo! holds a special place among America’s Internet companies. In the United States, according to research firm comScore, it had a monthly audience of unique visitor that was above 192.9 million in May. That put it a very close second to Google Inc.’s (GOOG), which was 193.5 million. Because of its huge size, the trends set by Yahoo! almost certainly represent those of most of the balance of the industry.

States That Drink the Most Beer

The bane of display advertising today is that so many Web properties have decided to stake their futures on content delivered on small devices, which include, primarily, smartphones. All of the evidence indicates that advertisers will pay less for messages they post on these smaller screens. Actually, the amount marketers will pay for this content environment is much, much less than for traditional display ads that appear on personal computers (PCs). In an attempt to chase the online content audience as it migrates away from PCs, Internet companies have badly damaged future revenue prospects. The trouble is that people will watch content on smaller screens whether online content sites like it or not.

Most experts hope that falling display ad rates can be offset by the increase in video content on the Internet. Advertisers will pay a great deal more for video ads than display ads. So, there is a rush to create this sort of programming. But the likelihood that video can balance the drop in display rates appears unlikely.

Beyond Google’s YouTube, the amount of video posted on the Internet by large content companies is relatively small. In May, Google sites had 154.4 million unique video viewers, driven almost exclusively by YouTube. These visitors spent an average of 437 minutes on Google sites in May. After that, video viewership at other sites drops very sharply. For example, Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) sites had 45.2 million unique video viewers in May. The average time these viewers spent watching video on Microsoft sites was only 36.9 minutes, barely more than a half-hour TV show.

Internet advertising may remain at current levels in terms of volume, but the monetary yield from these ads likely will never return.
